4 Tips for Rescuing Your Favourite Piece of Clothing After a Spill or Spot
Getting Tough Stains out of Your Favourite Clothes
If you are dealing with a large spill or spot, or particularly for oily or brightly coloured stains, think carefully about whether you are willing to risk permanent damage to the item before you attempt at home stain removal.
While home spot and stain removal with regular laundry detergent or spray and wash works well for many small, simple, water soluble stains, at Page the Cleaner our experienced cleaners are trained to carefully target a wide range of difficult stains, for the best chance at full stain removal without damaging your garment!
What you can do to have the best chance of success with a major stain on clothing:
- ACT QUICKLY! When you get a spill or contamination on a garment, if possible, remove the item and sop up and absorb as much as possible as quickly as possible. For water soluble materials (ie. not oily), try rinsing with water.
- THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE – If you love the garment and want the best chance of restoring it, do not attempt home remedies – attempts to remove the stain by washing or trying home remedies may actually cause permanent setting of the stain
- BRING IT IN – Bring the garment in to Page as soon as possible – old stains are harder to remove than new stains.
- GIVE US THE DETAILS – Provide as much information as you can about what caused the stain – example – knowing that a red stain is from lipstick vs paint, food, or blood would significantly change our course of action. If you have made any attempts to remove it yourself, let us know what you’ve tried.
